The Filipino Sari-Sari store has always been the Philippine's staple convenience store; long before 7-Eleven had taken over our streets we've had our trusty Sari-Sari stores in every corner of the barangay, village, subdivision, and barrio. With the Sari-Sari store being around for so long, would it survive 35 years into the future? What products would they be equipped with by then? What services would they offer? 

VSOON, a New York-based design research studio, also wondered what the future would be for the Sari-Sari store. As a result VSOON created their own version of what the future Sari-Sari store would look like, what products and services they would offer, and created a general feel of what a futuristic Sari-Sari store would be in their SARI SUKI 2050 exhibition.

SARI SUKI 2050 will be opening on August 20, at the 856 Gallery, A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City, Cebu. For more information on their exhibition you can check out there event page here.

VSOON is a New York design research studio concerned about the future. VSOON’S Chris John Fussner, Noah Emrich and Sophia Callahan are graduates from Parsons School of Design in New York. Their previous project Datacafe.biz was shown during NYCxDesign week last May in Brooklyn, NY. Their work often includes ethnographic research, graphic and web design, as well as conceptual practices across themes of speculative futures and global networks.

Behance Portfolio Review Cebu Recap

Last May 16 and 17 Cebu had its first ever Behance Portfolio Review. To everybody that's new to this review thing, Behance is a globally known online portfolio platform for designers, illustrators, photographers, and arists. Behance has a biannual portfolio review where young designers, illustrators, photographers, and artists are given a chance to present their portfolio to a set of panelists who are professionals in the industry, the panelist will give creative input about their portfolio after they have presented. In other parts of the world the categories per review are much more vast ranging from installation art, music, and many more, but this year for Cebu there were three categories for the reviews Graphic Design, Illustration and Photography.

The event also had various speakers like Inodoro, Happy Garaje, Dexter Bongo, and Anjo Bolarda. There was also an art market where local artists, and crafters sold awesome artworks and merchandise.

Police said Jasin Curtis had lost money playing dice with two other young, Drequone Rich, 21, and Dionte Travis, 18. They decided to rob a passerby discovered the French and not far from where they were.

It becomes harder and harder for us to choose what to showcase for our readers given that we are bombarded with lots of visual information because of these technologies . But we think the most important rule is we share the things that we like and what we think has a contribution to the whole scene. Designubec 2015

The Streetkonect team got a chance to check out the Designubec 2015 exhibition. Designubec is cebu based, annual digital art exhibition created by Edzel Rubite that features a number of artworks form various graphic designers and artists. This years Designubec is the 3rd exhibition done since 2012.

Katsu, Drone painting and the future of Graffiti

I am interested of new tools and technologies in creating art. I am a fan of Graffiti Research Lab, the group who spearheaded the LED throwies called Lazer Graffiti, eye writer etc.2 months ago, I had a conversation with my former mentor telling me that what else "street art" and "graffiti" have to do since their techniques and styles are repetitive. To a certain level i might agree with him, because at some point what i see on the internet or on the streets has been done already by other artists. There is some formula that one artist will develop a cartoon character, paint them on walls, make a sticker or make a poster, then make a facebook page and post their works online. The artist will gather a fan base then will release a shirt, or merchandise or he/she will exhibit in an gallery and sell the painting of his characters. There is nothing wrong with it, especially when your reason is economic but a problem might arise if all the new and upcoming artists are doing it repeatedly. Imagine if there was no Monet and the art that we are producing until now were all like Da Vinci's art.

There is a video making buzz on the internet, Katsu, a graffiti artist, used a drone to tag over a Billboard in NYC.


I am not sure if the act was sponsored by Calvin Klein since there was a rumor a couple of years ago that graffiti writers are paid to bombed a shop for the sake of making it viral. Nevertheless, I am interested in the technique of Katsu and happy that the technology is open source.
I am researching on the internet and found same technique but im not sure if these videos are true but the idea is there.




Behance Portfolio Review Cebu


The long wait is finally over! The Behance Portfolio Review has finally landed in Cebu. In case you've been living under a rock for the last couple of years, Behance is a globally known online portfolio platform where thousands of Graphic Designers, Illustrators, and Photographers show case their works. There are 10 slots available for the review per category, the categories are Graphic Design, Illustration, and Photography. The 10 short-listed artists will then proceed to the next round of the review. You can check out the image of the mechanics below: 


Deadline for the first submission will be until April 26, 2015 so you better get a move on if you want those slots! The final review will be on May 16 10am-12pm, and May 17 2pm-5pm. Other than the review there will be also talks from professionals in the field. The final review is free admission and open to the public, so come over and bring your friends.
